The mission of Jesus House

Odessa is to provide homeless men with shelter and the tools they need to help them become self sufficient, feed the hungry,

and carry out the ministry of Jesus as stated in Gods word in the book of Matthew chapter 25.

WHAT DO THEY DO?The gentlemen live through a self paced program, doing bible studies, work ethic, job hunts, schooling, and yes, serving, as they "relearn life" daily making decisions finding out that there are consequences for their decisions and actions learning exactly how those decisions affect the rest of their lives, while learning how God made rules for our own good because he loves us. They receive biblical teaching, receive counseling, and are required to seek, and keep employment. Mandatory for all who stay are all church services, job interviews, and setting up a savings account to teach them how to be good stewards of the things that God blesses them with.Graduation is not achieved until they are able to leave with a savings, thier own apartment, supporting themselves.
WHAT IS THE JESUS HOUSE? A 501-c3 Organization,Jesus House Odessa is a mens Transitional Home. "Transitional" meaning not just another shelter, but a place where men live and are trained to set goals for a new productive life.IN THE FUTUREWe are currently raising funds to build a center for Women and Children.We are now at $65,000.00 and need to raise approximately $150,000.00 more to begin.
OCCUPANCYThe number of men we have at one time vary sometimes from day to day. Some of them fight to continue and some give up before they get started. While they fight addictions and struggle with responsibility, we will continue to lead them to the best of our ability sometimes with tough love, demanding that they take responsibility for their acitons as well as befriending them as we help them to see their self worth, to be able to see themselves as God created them to be.

Volunteers LIKE TO VOLUNTEER?Volunteers are needed Monday- Thursday and Saturdays for everything from cooking to sorting donations, to prayer.If you would like to help, please contact us to set up a time.TEXAS SCHOLARS WELCOME! We are approved by Texas Scholars for students to be able to receive hours for their time. Students will be able to do a variety of things from preparing meals, to working in the stock room,to actually going out on the streets to feed in the homeless camps. Besides being a priviledge to serve in this way it is also an awakening thing to see where drugs, alcohol will eventually take someone, making this a drug and alcohol reality check. Scholars are to arrive no later than noon on Saturday's. They will be assured at least 1 hour or more.

Every $1.50 Will purchase a meal for a hungry person on the streets.We serve approximately 50,000 meals per year withbreakfasts and lunches combined. Every $15.oo Will provide one starter packet that will be given to every gentleman entering the program when he arrives. DONATION OF TIME You may also call us to donate your time.That could involve preparing meals, doing bible studieswith the gentlemen, taking one of them to runerrands, (after you are approved), or helping them in the area of getting their lives back together and meeting a specific need suchas getting ID's, Job leads, and building a relationship so that they will have another friend to hold themaccountable.
